The biggest celebrity in Chicago this week is a 6-foot-tall robot named Baxter, says the Tribune. Described as “a new breed of industrial robot meant to perform lightweight, repetitive tasks like packing and sorting,” Baxter made his debut at a trade fair yesterday to throngs of excited buyers. Most industrial robots currently on the market must be housed in metal cages because of safety concerns. Baxter, however, was designed to work side-by-side with humans.
