Religion is getting a makeover in the bars and coffeehouses of Chicago reports the Tribune. The city is the latest to be targeted by church “planters,” organizers who are trying to start “thousands of churches a year that reach people in more culturally relevant ways.” The makeshift churches feature people in their jeans, rather than in their Sunday best, premium coffee rather than Folgers out of a paper cup, and Indie Rock instead of hymns.
