Pat Prefers Pumpkin Pie

Who knew an off-the-cuff remark about pie loyalty would generate such discussion?
I did an interview last week with Gothamist about my Thanksgiving and Christmas plans. We touched on the best gift I’ve ever received, the best gift I’ve given, and my favorite part of the Thanksgiving meal. I got specific about my love of pie, picking pumpkin pie as my fall favorite.
That prompted Paul Fritsky to weigh in on Twitter and inform me that pumpkin pie is just a knockoff of sweet potato pie.
. @patkiernan @AmericanExpress @Gothamist Wake up sheeple! Pumpkin is a lackluster Sweet Potato knock-off.

Epicurious was more supportive of my pie choice, chiming in with a list of 17 great pumpkin pie recipes.

As I explained in the interview, pumpkin pie isn’t my year-round favorite. That belongs to a well-crafted apple pie. But if forced to choose one slice at the holiday table, the nod goes to pumpkin.
Gothamist sponsor American Express jumped into the discussion as well, granting me permission to have a second slice of pie on Thanksgiving if that’s what makes me happy. I’m easily pleased.
