Even before Regis Philbin announced his retirement plan, it was my hope that someday I’d be asked to fill in as a guest host on “Live!”  I’m pleased to report that I’ve been asked to do just that on March 7th. I’m thrilled that Kelly Ripa and executive producer Michael Gelman have asked me to join them for a day.

I’m nervous because it’s a new situation. But mostly I’m excited because it’s a fun show and Kelly’s a great on-air partner. She makes her co-hosts feel at ease in every situation. She takes the lead without taking over.

Our guests on March 7 include Willem Dafoe, who’s promoting the new movie John Carter. He and I will have plenty to talk about,, because in his 2011 movie “4:44 Last Day on Earth” I was the news anchor who told his character the world was about to end.
