Jerry Says Relaxed: Seinfeld on NY1

Dawn and I flew to Atlanta a couple of years ago to see Jerry Seinfeld. He doesn’t do many standup dates and when the tickets popped up on Ticketmaster’s “you may enjoy ...” suggestions I grabbed them.

One of his comedy bits at the Fox Theatre was about the 7-day forecast. It was delivered with Seinfeld style that can’t be duplicated here, but the heart of the gag was the inaccuracy of the long-range forecasts and the punch line was: “If it was really the 7-day forecast then they would only have to announce it once a week.”

I cringed a little in the audience. Because it seemed like he could have been talking about NY1, where we repeat the 7-day forecast every 10 minutes.

Today, I was tickled to learn that Jerry Seinfeld really does spend some of his mornings with NY1. My Upper West Side neighbor is the director for Colin Quinn’s new one-man show on Broadway. And Jerry stopped by the NY1 camera at opening night.

He had some observations about our morning news program. He says I’m relaxed. And I’m pretty sure he means that in a good way.

As I told our Traffic reporter Jamie Shupak, I’m feeling a little pressure to be funnier on “In the Papers” with the news that Jerry watches.

(And even though he got Vancouver and Calgary mixed up, thanks to NY1 jack-of-all-trades Robin Sanders for his Seinfeld interview.)

In case you missed it in August of 2009, Joan Rivers also admitted her NY1 addiction:
