1. Today’s Starbucks Alter Ego, And an Apology

This morning, we got an email from Jeff. He had just returned from Starbucks and noticed that “Jeff” was not the name written on his iced Grande Americano. So here it is folks, Jeff’s official apology to “Amgand S.” for stealing his/her/its coffee.

  2. Don’t Ask Don’t Tell: Soldier Calls Dad to Say He’s Gay

Reality TV has nothing on real-life reality. A gay soldier who’s been uploading YouTube videos with his face obscured decided, with the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, that he should finally tell his father he’s gay. He posted the video online early today.

  3. Today’s Starbucks Alter Ego: “Moorley”

Strange things happen in strange cities, like this Alter Ego, submitted by Pat’s Papers reader Caroline. She writes: “My parents just flew in to NYC and stopped at a midtown Starbucks. My mom’s name is Marlene, but my dad grabbed this drink for her anyway.” Turns out, it was hers…

  4. VIDEO: Webcam 101 for Seniors

I haven’t been able to find a story that explains who this couple is. But they are great together. Just trying to find their way around a confusing webcam installation. Watch the VIDEO.

  5. Soda Bottle Lightbulbs Brighten Future

As we get near the mandatory switch from conventional light bulbs to energy-saving models in this country, I thought this video was particularly apt. Isang Litrong Liwanag, which means a liter of light, is a non-profit started in the Philippines. Their mission? To bring sunlight to households that would otherwise exist in the dark. 8. Pat’s September 11th, 2001 NY1 News Diary

I’m moderating a September 11th panel discussion tonight at the Paley Center. We’ve assembled a group of 8 NY1 journalists to tell the stories of how they covered the events of the day 10 years ago. As I prepare for that event, I pulled up the minute-by-minute recap of my day, which I wrote late on the night of September 11, 2001. It’s reprinted here in its entirety.

  9. O America! Canada Salutes American Songbook

On Canada Day this year, I stood up in front of a crowd at Joe’s Pub and belted out O Canada. Now the team that staged the event is hosting another one to commemorate September 11. Called “Canada Sings the American Songbook: A Canadian Tribute to New York,” the night of music will feature a “top-flight roster of Canadian musical talent performing a set list that samples over 100 years of American song writing.” But sadly, fans, no Pat Kiernan.
