The Love Equation

Love is messy, statistically speaking. But researchers say the explosion of online dating sites has allowed them to build a database that proves “pretty much everything our grandmother told us” reports the San Jose Mercury News. Most of their findings reaffirmed popular notions of online courtship—pictures are important; everyone tends to exaggerate a bit; men are more likely to make the first move. But researchers say they gleaned an unexpected piece of advice from the data: Shut up. Apparently, the more information you exchange with someone the more likely you are to find someone incompatible. So instead of disclosing everything in an online chat, meet your date in person to see if the chemistry is actually there.
