Study: Mean People Earn More

Nice guys really do finish last says the Wall Street Journal. According to a new study, mean people earn more money. A lot more money. Rating the “agreeableness,” of employees, both men and women, researchers found that men who scored below average made about 18 percent, or $9,772 more annually, than their friendlier counterparts. Rude women earned about five percent more, $1,828 a year, than their nicer colleagues. One of the reasons for the discrepancy may be that more agreeable people tend to not exert themselves in salary negotiations. Says one expert: “The problem is, many managers often don’t realize they reward disagreeableness.”
