Nail Biting Classified as OCD Disorder


The latest entry to the American Psychiatric Association manual of disorders is a nail-biter says the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Onychophagia—more commonly known as nail biting—will join “hair-pulling, skin-picking and other pathological grooming habits” as a type of obsessive compulsive disorder. Experts say the new classification doesn’t mean that everyone who bites their nails—48 percent of adults do—suffers from OCD.
