Carnival Passengers Don’t Want Booze, They Want Coffee


Who cares if you’re eating Spam when there’s an open bar, right? Wrong. The San Diego Union-Tribune says the item most requested by passengers stuck aboard the disabled Carnival cruise ship is…coffee.

Carnival staff have kept the ship’s bars and casinos open throughout the ordeal, offering up free drinks to any and all. But according to a Coast Guard food specialist who spent 36 hours on the ship, a cup of coffee was the most frequently requested item. Maybe that’s because many passengers have been sleeping in the hallways, trying to escape the 80-degree weather and “acrid smell” from the engine fire, which is to blame for the ship’s malfunctions. The ship is expected to make it to a San Diego port early today.
