“Altar of Ego”

Noting the exceptional number of candidates this year, the LA Times nominates sports figures for its annual “all-ego team” in today’s paper. LeBron James is named captain for setting “new standards in icky self-importance.” Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is the second man picked. The Times says simply, “If ego were rum, he’d be Mel Gibson.” Lance Armstrong is nominated based solely on the fact that he’s been around for so long. The Times cautions that if he doesn’t get off the bike soon, he’ll end up as the “Brett Favre of cycling.” The entire NFL, Mark Cuban, Jerry Jones, free agency and Rex Ryan round out the first team.
