5 New Residents Strip Illinois Town of Claim to Fame

The Illinois town of Kaskaskia grew by 55 percent, according the latest census data. But the Chicago Tribune says the population leap killed its long-held claim to fame. Now boasting a population of 14, Kaskaskia is no longer the state’s smallest town. That distinction is now held by Valley City, population 13. The state’s first capital, Kaskaskia got five new residents since the last census, a boon seeing as the town was under 15 feet of Mississippi River water back in 1993.
